Wendy
Poole is a self-taught newcomer to painting who brings a fresh eye to abstract
composition, combining elements of abstraction with a private treasury of representational
images. Inspired by past experiences and present perceptions, she paints directly
from the subconscious. Her work is a journey of exploration through the various
layers and interrelationships of nature and being.
"I work from imagination, usually quickly, and when I sit down to paint I never
know what is going to appear. The images that emerge depend on my mood and what
is happening in my life. The colours I choose depend on how I feel at the time.
I love the unpredictable nature of working like this. It makes it exciting for
me"
I am interested in different levels of consciousness in the human mind, and
the connection between this and the different levels which occur naturally in
our world. The 'above' and 'below' nature of our world interests me and this
is reflected in many of the images that come to me.
I am most comfortable working at my kitchen table, and paint every day for weeks
at a time, followed by periods of relative inactivity, usually followed by the
sudden emergence of many images. My painting is a continual learning process
of both discovery and exploration.
